In this series called “Client Success in the Spotlight”, I’m introducing you to these inspiring people to spotlight the remarkable outcomes and results they’ve accomplished both during and since doing the Get More Clients Saying Yes! course. And to show you what really IS possible – even from a standing start.
They are the people who care passionately about what they do and love making a difference to others through their work. And they know that they can only do that through connecting with the value they have to offer and learning how to confidently communicate it to their clients.
Today, I’m pleased to introduce:
Kanan Tekchandani | Aspie Coach
Please tell us a little bit about you and your business:
I help neurodivergent, gifted and “twice exceptional” adults, couples and families to get unstuck from anxiety, depression, stress, conflict and self-doubt, to embracing their full authentic unmasked selves so they can live a meaningful life of happiness, peace and success.
Tell us why you do what you do:
I grew up not knowing why I felt so different from everyone else. Life felt so much harder than it seemed for others and I never felt deeply understood and connected to.
When my son was young he struggled a lot with emotional outbursts that distressed us as parents. I couldn’t find a professional who understood it or knew how to help, and we all struggled for years, in crisis. I had to find my own answers and solutions that worked for our “twice-exceptional” family.
Now, I realise that no one does what I do…and yet it is deeply needed! I feel I have no choice but to help others who are suffering mentally, emotionally and spiritually like I and my family have. This is simply my inevitable life purpose.
Where was your business at and how were you feeling about it before you did the course?
I was at the start of setting up my business and I had no idea how to let people know about me. I didn’t really know what “sales” even meant!
When I first started coaching, I was offering single sessions for £50, and even that felt a lot to ask people to pay. I was seriously doubting how I could make this into a business.
My first annual financial goal was £15k. But I didn’t really believe in it – I really couldn’t understand or see how I could even sign on 1 client for a higher amount – let alone make £15k on my own!
What was your biggest success or breakthrough as a result of doing the course?
The course helped me to move away from selling single low-cost sessions and sign up my first ever clients for my “Path To Happiness” 3-month programme for £999.
When you know nothing about the art of sales it’s very easy to feel dejected and think it’s impossible to even sign up one person! But getting those first few vital clients gave me the confidence to keep going and not give up – and helped me believe that I really could make this business work.
What has been the impact on your business in the time since you took the course?
Doing this course meant that I can make a living doing what I love. I no longer waste time being confused and wondering how to do sales. And I can spend more of my time actually serving clients and changing lives for the better.
As my confidence grew, I gradually increased my fees, and my core coaching programme increased to £2,500, which meant I could consistently hit those financial goals and have balance in my working life – it’s important to me to work just 4 days a week.
What has been your biggest success in your business to date?
I’ve managed to consistently hit my financial goals for the last 2 years and I’m feeling confident I am on track to hit this year’s goal.
I’ve also achieved financial goals that felt impossible when I first started out. When I started out, I aimed for an average of £1.5k per month and that felt like a stretch – but now my typical revenue varies between £2.5k up to £8k per month.
But the biggest achievement is that some of my clients get so much value and benefit from the work I do with them that they continue to work with me for a year or more, which equates to a £10k programme for a year.
How did what you learned in the course support you in achieving this success?
I got clarity on the benefits and transformations I could help people achieve and how to communicate them. And I learned how to guide a potential client confidently through a conversation that would allow them to make a considered decision that was right for them.
Before the course, my own lack of clarity meant it was very hard to convey my value in a concrete way. That self confidence and having been given a framework to follow meant that sales calls started to feel more comfortable and in flow. Which in turn led to more clients, great results for those clients and increased confidence in my pricing.
What 3 tips would you give to other business owners who are struggling with sales?
1. Learn a sales framework from a mentor or a coach that feels in alignment with your values – we aren’t all born with this skill, but it’s a skill that can be learned.
2. Practice practice practice! Until it feels at least semi-comfortable. Practicing with people in the course helped me feel more “ready” to have these conversations with actual clients.
3. Get clear on what the value of your service is for the client, versus what you “do” or the tools or process you use.
How can people find out more about you and your work?
On my website, you can access free resources and sign up to keep hearing more from me about neurodiversity with an affirmative, authentic perspective.
I hope you’ve found that Kanan’s story helps you believe that it truly is possible to create real change with your work and make it a financial success even from a complete standing start with no idea how to make it work.
Starting on the 2nd of October, I will be running a free, 5-day transformational journey for people who love to help but don’t like to sell.
It’s designed to give you a shift in the way you think, feel about and approach sales, which will in turn directly impact your business and the number of clients you are able to serve and help.
